Editorial Policy & Corrections
How Gazagifts conducts cultural research, cites historical evidence, preserves regional nuances, and handles corrections.
Gazagifts.com is an English-first publication dedicated to Palestinian cultural heritage, traditional embroidery (tatreez), culinary heritage, historic crafts, and thoughtful gift curation. Because cultural heritage is living, intergenerational, and sacred to the communities who sustain it, we operate under strict, transparent editorial principles.
1. Living Heritage & Regional Nuance
Palestinian culture is diverse and context-rich. We do not flatten regional differences across the villages, cities, and refugee communities of Ramallah, Gaza, Hebron, Jerusalem, the Galilee, Jaffa, or Beersheba into a single, generic aesthetic.
- No universalizing claims: We do not assert that any motif, stitch, or recipe is “the only authentic version” unless backed by definitive documentation.
- Distinguishing history from interpretation: When documenting embroidery symbolism, we distinguish documented museum archives (e.g., the Widad Kawar Collection, Oriental Institute, British Museum) from modern interpretations or oral folklore.
- Culinary accuracy: We celebrate regional culinary identities—such as Gaza’s signature reliance on crushed dill seed (ein jaradeh), fresh green chilies, and clay mortars, alongside the olive oil and sumac traditions of the northern West Bank.
2. Sourcing, Verification & Archival Care
Every historical claim, technique specification, and artisan tradition is documented in our master source log.
- We rely on recognized ethnographers, historians, culinary authors, and museum curators, including Shelagh Weir, Tania Nasir, Iman Saca, Reem Kassis, Christiane Dabdoub Nasser, and Laila El-Haddad.
- Claims that cannot be corroborated through primary documentation or credible oral history are omitted or marked
[VERIFY BEFORE PUBLICATION]and withheld from public release. - We never fabricate facts, statistics, historical quotations, or first-hand interviews.
3. Visual Honesty & Image Provenance
We believe visual integrity is central to reader trust:
- We never represent digital or AI-generated illustrations as authentic historical documentary photographs.
- Original diagrams and charts are clearly identified as educational illustrations created by Gazagifts.
- All historical or archival photographs carry full institutional provenance, collection accession numbers, and public domain or licensed status in our image registry.
4. Commercial Independence & Advertising Ethics
Our editorial recommendations are determined solely by usefulness, cultural merit, and artisan integrity:
- No paid pay-for-play reviews or unearned endorsements.
- Affiliate relationships and display advertising remain disabled until all editorial and quality launch gates have passed. When introduced, every commercial link is conspicuously labeled.
- We never create fake urgency, artificial scarcity, or deceptive affiliate buttons.
5. Corrections & Reader Feedback
We welcome corrections from community elders, historians, stitchers, cooks, and readers. When a substantive factual error is identified, we correct the article promptly and append a dated, transparent correction notice at the foot of the piece.
To submit a correction or suggest an archival source, please email editorial@gazagifts.com or use our contact form with the subject line “Editorial Correction”.
